Dancing Through Parkinson's
Support Group Movement Workshops

November 2018, marks the third time I presented an Introductory Dancing Through Parkinson's Workshop at the monthly Parkinson's Cafe support group meeting that is sponsored by the Neuro Challenge Foundation.

The workshop includes a bit of information about my background, as well as what research has to say about the benefits of dance.

The most important part of the workshop, of course, is when I actually engage the attendees in movement and dance.

Pictured beside me in their webpage announcement of presenters, is the second featured speaker of day.

Memory Monday's Support Group Movement Workshops

Picture
Memory Monday's is a support group meeting for those with dementia and their caregivers.  It is held at Great Explorations in St. Petersburg and is sponsored sponsored by AARP and presented in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association Florida Gulf Coast Chapter. Additional support is provided by Harmony Home Health.

I was contracted by Arts4All Florida to provide a monthly 1/2 hour movement workshop to this group.  I incorporate the monthly theme into my workshop, using music about the topic. We begin every session with the BrainDance and end every session with reflecting on the theme and creating a movement phrase based on those reflections.  In between those two activities, we stand up and dance, always to a choreographed piece and sometimes we add a little free-dance.
